Job Description

Sexual and Gender Based Violence Project-AMERA
The SGBV project is a developing project in AMERA that assists asylum seekers/refugees who were subjected to sexual and gender based violence. The team provides psychosocial support/legal advice to survivors and works with various other teams within the organization and externally to provide further related and holistic services addressing the four main pillars of response (psychosocial, medical, legal, and safety/security). Other than individual case management, the team also advocates and networks with partner, local and community based networks and organizations as well as holds support groups and workshops within refugee communities on SGBV related issues.


Responsibilities:



  • Attend a two-week intensive training program provided by AMERA as well as SGBV specific training.

  • Learn to perform intake interviews and incident report forms for sexual and gender based violence survivors and handle a caseload of approximately 15 clients.

  • Facilitating monthly workshops and co-facilitating psycho-educational and/or therapeutic groups.

  • Identifying international and local organizations and formal or informal networks to increase opportunities and advocate for survivors of SGBV.

  • Think creatively on various solutions to be implemented to address sexual and gender based violence survivor’s needs, individually and collectively (ex. community outreach sessions).

  • Attend staff meetings and team meetings as well as assist in writing the monthly report.

  • Perform research on updated SGBV related materials and topics.


Qualifications * A background in psychology and/or social work and preferable experience working in human rights, with refugees, asylum seekers and/or migrants in a social or community service capacity.

* Demonstrated experience working in gender, refugees, human rights, minorities and other vulnerable groups.

* Excellent organizational, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.

* Maturity and discretion, able to work with, and maintain confidential information.

* Fluent in spoken and written English being the official language of the office. Fluency in Arabic is an asset.

* Experience in working with people from different cultural backgrounds.

* Self-motivated, independent, able to function under pressure with minimal supervision.
